A small team ventured north up to the Burrs Activity Centre, Bury to take part in the Irwell Wildwater Race, and the National Wavehopper Club Team Championships. Undeterred by the fact that none of the team had actually raced a Wavehopper before, coach Rob J, recently back from the WWR World Championships in Pau, was confident that their flatwater sprint speeds would see them through. The individual racing in the morning saw Max H take the U18 race, ahead of Luke J in 3rd, whilst George U won the U16 ahead of Guy B. The team competition was in the afternoon, with all three paddlers going down the course together. The fastest team on the day was actually Rob, with Guy and a German junior international WWR paddler who had turned up to race whilst at university in the UK, but they did not count towards the Wavehopper Title, as were in a mix of boats. The Banbury team of Max, Luke and George managed to record the same time as another crew, but the winners were then decided on the individual results, which left Banbury in front, and the owners of a new Wavehopper boat – the first prize!
